Weekend Review: Precious Moments Storybook Bible

My two year old is getting to an age where he likes "reading the Bible." He likes to pick up my Bible and very carefully turn the pages. He likes to read his own Bible to himself. He will sit at the table and "read" the WHOLE thing! We have one kid friendly Bible but when I was given the chance to review the Precious Moments Storybook Bible, I jumped at it. I have always loved the Precious moments drawings and characters.
Precious Moments Storybook Bible

The Precious Moments Storybook Bible is a retelling of Bible stories using the International Children's Bible. The stories aren't in the same order as the Bible but rather are grouped into story sections: Favorite Bible Classics, Words of Praise and Wisdom, and More Stories of the Faith. At the end of the Bible there is a section of Songs and Prayers. There are also record pages for Family Tree, Church Records, and a place to write a special prayer to your child. This is a large storybook bible. It has padded hard cover. The pages have large (14 point font) that is well spaced. The pictures are mostly classic Precious moments style- except for a few characters- like Jesus and Moses- that aren't cartoonish. Each page is surrounded by a cute border.
I felt that the illustrations were the best part of this book. We also really enjoyed the songs and prayers at the end of the book- mostly because there was just a short amount of text with each picture. Through the Bible itself- there are longer sections of text without a picture. This text would be very readable by an early reader, by my concern is that by the time and child could attend to that much text, he or she would generally be too mature for the pictures. If you have a young child who is an early reader, however, this could be a good choice.
I also found it confusing that the stories were grouped into sections rather than just being in the order of the Bible or in chronological order. In fact, when I first flipped through the Bible last week looking for the Christmas story, I thought they had left it out!! Don't worry, it was in there, it was just in a separate section. To me, it seems a hassle to have to go to the Table of Contents rather than just relying on memory of where the story should be in the Bible.
If you are a fan of precious moments, I think this could be a good keepsake. Overall, not a bad storybook Bible but probably not our "go-to" book for Bible stories.

Disclaimer: I was provided a free copy of this book from the publisher through their reviewer program at booksneeze. The opinions are my own honest opinions.
